• Washington DC is home to a huge variety of locations to elope. As a DC elopement photographer who has had their fair share of “I Do’s” in the Maryland area, DC is a great place to start the next chapter of your love story.

One of the greatest things about eloping is not having to rely so heavily on the availability of a venue and the restriction of only having one or two spaces to spend all your time. While there are so many options in DC, here are a few options depending on the season you choose to get married!

    Winter

Winter in DC is as unpredictable as most seasons here in the DMV. One week it could be 60 degrees, the next week it could be 25 degrees and snowing. That’s why you can never go wrong with indoor spaces. One of my favorites is the Library of Congress. There is no permit required, and the marble structures and stunning staircases provide an elegant touch.

    Spring

DC boasts a variety of flowers and opportunities for color and beauty. The Cherry Blossoms around April are a classic choice, but one of my favorite, less-crowded options is the Bishop’s Garden at the National Cathedral. There are plenty of little places to stop for photos, and vows under the arch is a stunning scene! The gardens do require a permit, and some may take the risk to enter the gardens without one, but for your special day, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

    Summer

Similar to Spring, Summer offers a variety of greens and flowers that make it impossible to believe you’re in the city. The monuments and memorials are a perfect place to head if you want the traditional feel of DC. One of my favorites is the DC War Memorial. It’s tucked away in a place you wouldn’t expect, making the grounds less crowded and more likely for a private moment between the two of you. The memorial does require a permit in advance, so be sure to secure that before your elopement date.

    Fall

Want to see all the beautiful Fall colors, but planning an elopement in DC? Tucked away in northern DC is Rock Creek Park. The long, easy walking trails offer a lot of stops for stunning fall photos that totally give “Twilight”. Pack along a picnic for an added touch!
